What is the SHAMBA foundation?

"We're building 'giving back' into more than our mission statement - we're building it into our office space." - Anthony Lacavera, Founder, SHAMBA foundation

The SHAMBA foundation is based on the simple idea that 'giving back' is important and that if you make it easy and you make it fun, people will do it. In fact, they'll do it a lot and they'll tell their friends to do it and their friends will tell their colleagues and pretty soon, that's a lot of people giving back - that's the easy part.

The Swahili word "shamba" means 'farm', and the concept for the SHAMBA foundation is to mobilize business networks in an urban setting creating a kind of 'urban farm', where many hands make light work.

The fun part – and the cornerstone of the SHAMBA foundation – is the creation of a brand new 2,500 square foot rooftop terrace designed for fantastic events that raise money for great causes. The SHAMBA Space, as we call it, is available for local charities to use at no cost to host events. In addition to donating this exquisite space, SHAMBA also negotiates sponsorships with food and beverage partners to ensure that the bulk of funds raised at an event actually go directly to the cause.

Okay, so we lend you the space, we help facilitate the food and drinks - what's next?

People! The final, and most important part of what we do at SHAMBA, is invite our business networks to come out to a great event, at a great space in support of a great cause. By choosing our patio over another, every dollar that is spent benefits a different charity each night.

It's a win-win situation!
